Cherie Soria, founder and director of Living Light Culinary Institute, has been teaching vegetarian, vegan, and gourmet raw cuisine for over 40 years now. Vital and creative at 68, Cherie is turning her attention to running marathons, writing new books, and other projects (which we will reveal in due time!)
She has made an important life decision—to retire from teaching at Living Light Culinary Institute at the end of 2015. We’ll still have our excellent staff of raw food chefs and well-trained instructors, but if you’ve been putting off coming to the school, and your dream is to study with Cherie in person, now is the time! She will be actively teaching during the last three Associate Chef trainings this year.

Years ago, in 1991, when Cherie and I were independently seeking a teacher of raw living food, we both chose to attend the Ann Wigmore Institute in Aguada, Puerto Rico, where “Dr. Ann” flew in for several days with her dog Precious in tow, and regaled us with stories and wisdom about her journey with living food. I’ve never regretted that decision. I’m glad I had the opportunity to study with the woman who brought the healing properties of raw living food to the U.S. and beyond. I feel very fortunate to have learned from her.
Today, Cherie is often called the “Mother of Gourmet Raw Vegan Cuisine” and for good reason. Inspired by her stay at the Ann Wigmore Institute, she went on to pioneer and develop a gourmet version of raw living cuisine. Most of the well known chefs, authors, and raw food celebrities today were either taught by Cherie at Living Light, or taught by a graduate of the school.
She is truly the modern day mother; the foremost teacher who inspired the idea of gourmet raw vegan cuisine; who created the first raw vegan culinary school in the world—the top school and the foundation of the gourmet raw food concept. She’s the woman who has been thrilled to see her students and their students spread the message of raw living cuisine to all corners of the earth. It’s been her dream come true! There is something to be said for studying with the mother, the matriarch, the elder.
She can give you the insight and love you need to begin your journey in earnest. Her influence and inspired teaching have sprouted so many amazing ideas, recipes, teachers, and events—too numerous to count, and all very rewarding.
Tamera Campbell of E3 Live puts it like this: “Living Light Culinary Institute is literally the Princeton, Columbia, and Yale of raw culinary arts schools. I’ve known Cherie for more than 18 years now, and I highly recommend studying with her in person—there’s simply no comparison”.
If you want to study with Cherie in person, call 707-964-2420 to register before the classes fill up! Our enrollment department will give you all the details about pricing, accommodation, what it’s like here in Fort Bragg—everything you need to know!
