This is the first year we attempted to grow cabbage: obviously we do well! We will have to grow more. My two grandsons, Nathan and Aidan, thought it was fun to pose with a head larger than their own!
I was reading the Farmer’s Almanac this morning and it said that if the berries are plentiful in the summer, look for a cold winter. Last year we had a good crop and had rain through June; usually our rain is over in April. Archie had just mentioned that our Loganberries seemed to be behind in their proliferation this year. We are glad that we will not have too cold of a winter, but what is wrong with our berries? BackyardGardner has great tips for growing loganberries, and we seem to be doing everything right. Ah well!
Last Friday was First Friday and we toured the town; always so much fun! We ate at Franklin Street Cafe, a great newish restrauant that has gluten free food as well as vegetarian foods: something for everyone. After diner we went to a play, La Cage aux Folles . The play itself was wonderful: funny, moving, touching. One of the best things, however, is seeing people you know on stage. This adds a whole new perspective to their personalities.
Have I mentioned that “I LOVE THIS TOWN!”!
Our Chef Showcase is this month so we’re all getting excited here at Living Light. One of the most exciting parts is Laura Fox’s Third Best of Raw Cacao Contest. The contestants are some of our very own, like Colleen Cacowski, Martine Lussier and Linas Kesminas, plus some of our graduates like Chef Tina Jo. And the judges will include our guest chef extraordinaire Vinette Thompson. You can be a part of this event whether you come to the showcase or enjoy it at home via live streaming.
